PROBLEM 3.6

Suppose you are the inventor of a new device called the helicopter. By describing the functional characteristics of the machine, list some of the societal needs that it is expected to satisfy. Which of these have come to fruition, and which have not?

SOLUTION

The modern world these days has empowered different air transportations to be created. One of them is a gadget called helicopter. Helicopter is a sort of rotorcraft in which lift and push are provided by rotors. It is kept up noticeable all around by an assortment of strengths and controls working contrary to each other. Helicopter can take off and arrive vertically and additionally flies forward, in reverse, drift for expanded timeframe.
Helicopter that is a versatile transportation has made it one of the critical transportation today. It is utilized in defensive purpose, medical, tourism, development and some more. As the innovators of the modern helicopter, we have made sense of the client's social needs as they ride this vehicle. Among the social needs that are normal are: Safety, Comfort, Fast Travel, Longer Travel, High Load Capacity, Special Function and Eco-Green Design.
Base on the social needs expressed over, some of them can be fulfilled and some of them are most certainly not. As we found those necessities must identical with the helicopter utilitarian characteristics itself. In this way, beneath are a few social needs that can be meet base on functional characteristics of the helicopter:

1). Safety
Helicopter is exposed to risk particularly during the times when it flies. Among the variable contribute is the vibration. The higher vibration will makes the helicopter to shake itself in the air. So by including stabilizer bar above and cross the primary rotor helps in overcomes undesirable vibration and straightforwardly stabilized it in all flight condition. In this manner, this social need can be accomplished.

2). Comfort
The inner space of the helicopter will decide the comfort ability of the travelers. Huge spaces will make travelers sit in comforts. The development of the lodge can be set up on certain parameter as indicated by its capacity. Aside from that, less noise inside helicopter will build tranquility of the travelers. Base on practical normal for helicopter, the tail rotor which is recessed into fairing of the tail reduce the noise level. This kind of rotor may have 8 to 12 blades that can increase the frequency of the noise and then weakening by the atmosphere. The attacking weapons can also be installed to the helicopter. This special design might be used for the defense department such as Police and Army.

7). Eco-Green Design
It is found that helicopter produces carbon dioxide (CO2) gas which will introduced contamination. The CO2 discharge rate is three times the sum produced by the van. Thus, the new design of helicopter which equipped with eco-green characteristics should be introduced to help minimizing environment pollution rate.

Conclusion

Helicopter has assortment in preference. Everything relies upon client's needs and every single helicopter bargains of size, capacity, costs (both starting and running), comfort, speed and adaptability. Henceforth, all essential characteristics of helicopter ought to be distinguished in order to meet the social needs or specification.
